December 26, 2016

Hi family,
my first change of the mission ends tomorrow! i'm pretty psyched, i'm halfway through my training now. on my way to becoming a big boy.
this week was interesting. Funny story, we contacted a lady named Sonya on Thursday. i don't think she was all the way there... or maybe she was just intoxicated. Either way, we got to conversating. I didn't understand a lot of it, so i was smiling  and nodding and saying "si" a lot, she was talking about my eyes for some reason. after we left my comp asked me if i knew what she had said. Apparently, she had been talking about how her dead Russian husband had the same color eyes as me and that she loved mine and.... wanted more of them haha. She asked if i was single and wanted to marry her!! i didnt know what she was saying, i was just nodding my head and saying "si" so i didnt appear to be stupid!! and i accepted! haha hopefully she won't remember next time we visit. she seemed pretty looney.
so christmas is Paraguay is completely wack. it doesnt exist, really. everyone celebrates on christmas eve, they call it noche buena, and at midnight they eat dinner and drink and drink and drink. so christmas is more like national hangover day than Christmas. and paraguayans dont give presents either. its just an excuse to drink and eat, to be honest. i thought the united states was bad haha
last saturday we had lunch with the familia Paradez. my plate was a bunch of meet so i dug in and it was sooo good. i asked Hermano Paradez what it was and he said something really fast. i told him it didnt matter cuz it tasted great. elder V then told me it was lengua de vaca. cow tongue. hahaha it was a little harder to chew after that
this week will be real good. we have changes tomorrow, which everyone treates here like a ritual or something haha theres definitely buzzing in the air.
i hope you all had a great christmas and had fun spending time with friends and family. stay safe this week and have a happy new year

quick email for you all this week. So I'll start it off with some funny stories for you all.
-On Tuesday we went to make brownies with our friend who's not all there. That place is too wild haha everyone there is out of their mind, literally. We made the brownies, shared a spiritual thought, ended with a prayer, and before we knew it all the brownies were gone. Didn't even get a single crumb. It was super depressing, to be honest.
-Later in the week we were in a really poor area of the city and we contacted a man  and were teaching him. When we finished the lesson, his 3 year old son walked up to him and put something into his hand. i don't think Elder Villacreses saw it but it was drug related. the guy hid it behind his back real quick haha sounds like we know what our next lesson needs to be on
-I participated in a choral program on saturday night. it was so bad haha Paraguayans have absolutely no ear for music. but i think the people enjoyed it because they couldn't tell how off tune it was either haha

other stuff that happened this week was i found out i'm allergic to mangos! we had mangos for dessert on thursday and my face has been enourmous and red and swelled up ever since haha which really is too bad because mangos are the only things any one ever eats around here. Dang.

and this saturday i went on a division w/ Elder Schmidt. he's a greenie too so it was super stressful because we both are terrible at spanish!  it didn't end up too bad though, we actually made some pretty good contacts and we also went to the mcdonalds in his super chuchi area and got kit kat mcflurry's so that was nice.

i realize more and more how much im growing up out here. last night i was feeling pretty sick so i went into our bathroom and stuck my finger down my throat and forced myself to vomit. i think a dessert i had for lunch made me sick. they drizzle condensed milk on fruit here for dessert. even thinking about it makes me want to hurl again. but anyway, before the mission i would probably have gone into your room to wake up you haha. now, it still sucks, but it's more just annoying than terrifying. i don't know if that's a part of becoming an adult or not. but if i keep talking about it i'll throw up again so i'll change the subject haha

thanks for the emails. cant wait to talk on sunday, love you. Merry Christmas

December 12, 2016

dear family,
another great week in paraguay. my companion reminded me this week that the chapel we attend sacrament meeting is the same chapel they dedicated the temple in and that gordon b hickley was there when it happened. i've sat in the same place gordon b hinckley sat. pretty cool haha
well i still can't speak spanish. people talk and talk and talk in our lessons and then just look at me like they need help and i just have to shrug and look at my companion... it stinks. but i get better every day. i'm definitely learning a lot, and i improve daily.
this last week we met some interesting people. we taught a woman named antonia yesterday. she's 85 years old. and she has a glass eyeball. creepiest thing ever. she can't close that eye when she blinks so it's always staring at you, and it's an off shade so it doesn't match the other eye. creepy. we went and saw that schizophrenic lady again. she's super nice haha we're making brownies with her tomorrow!
on wednesday we're starting to teach english classes at the chapel in the night time. we run into a lot of people who want to learn english so starting now once a week, they'll feel like the stupid ones and i'll be the ones laughing at them for a change haha
not much else to talk about. we went to a restaraunt for lunch today called Paulista's. fanciest place i will ever be in. and it cost about 100,000 guaranies. thats like $20 american dollars. they have salad, pasta, and dessert buffets with personal chefs at each table, and waiters walk around with giant sticks of meat that they slice out for you. super chuchi haha i've never been so full. we're really lucky because it's in our zone so we don't have to ask for permission to go there for lunch on p days.
we have a baptism date on the 27th of december, if our investigator comes to church the next two weeks. i hope she does. her name is lara and she's 9. she really wants to be baptized but her mom is sooo lazy haha. we'll help her out this week.
we taught a lady the other day with a 5 yr old daughter who was super hyper. worse than avery or wake haha she was wack. no one was paying attention to her when we were teaching and she threw a tantrum. she walked up to the front door of the house, squatted down and pooped on the floor. hahaha her mom was soooo angry ha
i'll be skyping on christmas from the bishops house. i think we're 4 hours ahead here. and we have church from 9 to 12. and it takes forever to walk everywhere here so i told mom anywhere from 2 to 6. i only have an hour. i think i'll be fine. it'll be weird but it'll be good too.
oh yeah, mom was gonna send a package this week i think. if you don't want anything to be stolen tape it like crazy and put some pictures of the virgin mary on it for good measure. the latinos shouldn't touch it if they see it like that ha
we invited this kid gabriel to be baptized with a date on his first lesson last week. he's 19 and he's really cool. but we havent been able to find him since. and there are these less active kids Lilly and Kevin. they really don't care for the church that much anymore. they were baptized about a year ago but stopped coming to church after a few months. when we met them this week i felt like they were important. that we need them to come back. especially Lilly. theyre both 15. we'll see what happens. if i could speak spanish i would have rebuked them right there. ha
thanks for all the emails love you all! talk to you next week. god bless

December 5, 2016

dearfamily,
its not actually my 3rd week in this area but its the 3rd week of the changes so im gonna go with it. this week was great! there's a real challenge here with getting any baptisms. every person here above 25 years old is either too poor to marry the person they're living with, and in so can't be allowed to be baptised, or they once were married but seperated but dont have money for divorce so they're living with their boy or girlfriend whilst being married. when that happens they calle their significant other their "concubino" haha like concubine. isnt that terrible? so its really hard to get people to commit to baptism because its out of their control becasue everyone is so poor. when i learned this it really got me down. i wondered what the point was to even be here teaching. but the next day, we found 3 different boys, all about 18 years old, contacted them on the streets, taught a single lesson, and committed them all to baptism. which all 3 accepted. it was really amazing. i felt it was just God's way of telling me i do have a purpose out here.
this area im in is called Moroni A. our ward is called moroni and its split into two areas because its huuuge. our area is the most chuchi area in the whole mission. chuchi means fancy in guarani. we have a Mcdonalds here, a burger king, and dominos pizza (where we ate today), and a pizza hut. we're pretty spoiled haha. oh yeah, did mcdonalds just come out with a new mcflurry?? theres a bunch of signs here for kit kat mcflurry's! they look so good. we're gonna pick some up tomorrow.
they have a food item here called a Lomito. you can buy two kinds, one thats like a burrito, one thats like a hamburger. they're amazing. they're on par with chipotle, for reals. its like a steak hamburger with eggs and tomatoes and i dont know what else but it might be the best food i've ever tasted.
everyone in asuncion wears crocs. i guess its either the only thing they sell or its the easist thing to wear here. if i come back wanting to wear crocs, someone better slap me. haha
we teach a little girl named Lara. she's 9. she lives with her mom and little brother, Dani. i love going over there because Danny is a little devil. like a Paraguayan Dennis the Menace. hes crazy. and everytime he does anything wrong his mom yells at him "asi no!" which pretty means stop doing that. its like the only thing she every tells him haha
well, the mission field is great. im probably the most spoiled missionary here. i live in a nice area but one that has poor people who will still listen to us, i have a latino companion that speaks perfect spanish to learn from but also speaks english. and my apartment has a budet. those fancy toilets that spray water instead of needing to wipe with paper towels. im pretty spoiled haha
nobody here speaks solely guarani, but most are fluent and all throw in random words into their español all the time. i've learned a couple of phrases so far. i want to study it after i get fluent in spanish so i can bear my testimony in my homecoming talk. apparently its a pretty difficult language.
my companion is great. he knows a lot of english, and even more english slang haha becasue he learned english by watching comedy movies and listening to american music haha he's awesome. he's so righteous. he has the spirit of God in him. i've seen the gifts of the spirit in him countless times. i really look up to him.
summer is so hot here. haha but yeah, people celebrate christmas. everyone does. no one has trees, they just put tinsel on their fences or buy santa claus signs for their doors or what not. all the shopping centers go all out like in the states. i dont know if its very religious here. but on the 8th theres a pilgramige kind of thing for one of the catholic virgins? dont know much about it but everyone celebrates it. the ward's even having a luncheon that day. not that we're celebrating catholicism haha i think its so the members have something to do while the city is pretty much empty. everyone travels to some huge cathedral in downtown asuncion that day where the statue of the virgin is. most poeple here are catholic. like all of them are haha

love you all, thanks for writing

November 28, 2016

First email from the field so get ready...
so the day we left mexico city was looong. 10 hours of flying, collectively. it was hard haha but we stopped halfway through in panama city. i couldnt tell you if it was beautiful or not becasue it was about midnight we landed. but we got carls jr in the airport food court which i was too stoked for. last american meal. it was a bittersweet moment. we arrived in asuncion at around 530 in the morning. paraguay is 4 hours ahead of Mesa. they took us to the mission home and i met our mission president. oh what a guy. he's really awesome, and his wife is so nice. we stayed there for about a day, listening to orientations and such. the next day we met our trainers and were sent to our areas.
my companion's name is Elder Villacreses, from Ecuador. he's so pureté. thats a paraguayan word for awesome. he's a Latino but in High School he was taught english by american teachers so he speaks better than a lot of gringo elders here. i kind of get the best of both worlds with him. its really difficult though. he insists i learn by practicing so he never speaks much english except in the house.  our area is called Moroni. weŕe in Moroni A. Moroni B has the temple in it so we're really close to it. all the elders at the mission told me that Moroni is really chuchi. that means fancy in guarani. i dont have anything to compare it to but if this place is rich than paraguay must be a really poor country. Moroni B is much more wealthy than our area. they all have doorbells in their houses. we have to stand outside the gate and clap. thats how they know someone is outside.  it's really strange here. the houses go from pretty nice, to completely disgusting and nasty. next door to a mansion could be a tiny one room shack with scrap metal for a roof.   and there's a tiny neighborhood called San Pedro. everyone calls it the chaquerrita. Elder Villacreses says its the poorest place he's been to since being here. there's piles of trash everywhere and all the houses are dirt floors withough doors and barbed wire everywhere. its really sad. but most the people are happy. and humble and willing to listen.
i wouldnt call it a 3rd world country. although all the walls look like they'll fall down and all the furniture is molding, they all have cable TV and smart phones haha dont ask me how i dont understand.
our house is a tiny box on a 2nd store apartment bldg. no windows, and the only lights that work are in the bedrooms. ha so we cook and shower in the dark. its not too bad. at least we have air conditioning in the bedrooms.
the food here is much better than i thought it would be! the best thing i've had so far is called a lomita. like a carne asade burrito but the tortilla is thinner and crisper and theres no beans or cheese. i've had spaghetti so far, chicken casserole, hamburgers, and even some american style fruit pie. 'cept they eat something here called mandioca. its like really grainy mashed potatoes. its disgusting haha so hard to eat.
our ward is interesting. because Moroni is really chuchi but we also have the chaquerrita, there are many different kinds of people. we have some white europeans that speak english, we have some africans that speak portugese, and we good old fashioned paraguayans. our area is the only one with elderly couple missionaries, because we have the temple. Elder y Hermana Hansen. they're awesome, and they're always making american food to give to the elders. we had popcorn and peach jello from them last night. so good.
because our ward is so nice, its really hard to get the poorer class of people to come to church because they feel ashamed when they see people wearing nice clothes and having i phones and stuff like that. its so hard to get those people to come to church. ugh already.
most of our investigators come from the chaqueritta. every one else are snobs becasue theyre rich. we teach a little girl named lara. shes 9. she agreed to baptism but she cant be baptised until she come to church, and her family is suuuper lazy. thats the grand example of the people here. very nice and kind but you cant get them to do anything. its frustrating.
the language is coming along well. i still dont understand, but i can pick out words and phrases. they talk sooo fast. and apparently they mix spanish and guarani together the farther out of the city you go. everyone i talk to says i sound like a latino in my pronunciation. elder villacreses says i'll speak like one once i am more fluent.
thats all i have for you now. thanks for all your letters, love you all.

Dear Family of Elder Glasgow,

We are so happy that your son has joined us here in the Paraguay Asuncion North mission.  We know that as he commits to work hard and be obedient to mission rules, and continues to study and seek the guidance of the Holy Ghost, he will have a great experience on his mission.  He will grow to love the people, he will be willing to pass through difficulties, and he will come to know and love his  Savior in a more profound way than he has ever known.

His  first day here, we were able to give all the incoming missionaries some training on staying healthy, finances, mail, etc.  We were able to share some of the history of the Church here in Paraguay, go to the temple grounds, and participate in a wonderful testimony meeting at our home with all the new missionaries arriving that day.

Your son was interviewed and met his trainer, Elder Villacreses who was specially chosen for him. He has been trained to help your son in all the skills he will need to be a good missionary.  We hope you will enjoy these pictures that we are attaching.

We already love your son!  Thank you for raising such a fine young man who is so willing to serve his Father in Heaven and be a blessing to the people here and to his fellow missionaries.  We truly pray for them every day and are committed to working diligently to help them in whatever they need to be happy and successful.

May the Lord bless you and your son for the sacrifices, the faith, and the love that you are extending to the people here.  Thank you for all of your support.

With much love,

November 22, 2016

hey everyone. you´re probably wondering why im writing at such an early hour (630am) let me tell you a story:

last week i was told all Elders going to paraguay would need to stay an additional week, or until we recieved more news. on saturday night i recieved my schedule for an 8th week in the CCM. the problem in paraguay was some government issue. Problems with visas in the country had made them decide not to let any elders into the country until it was fixed. Knowing how slow govt works, we prepared to stay at least until december. However, on sunday, the 7 elders to paraguay decided to fast together. i fasted and prayed that we would be able to enter the field this week. whether that meant the visa problem would clear and we would travel to paraguay or that they would send us to the states to work until we could leave to paraguay. i asked heavenly father to send us to the field in a maximum of 7 days.  Moroni 7:26 assures us that whatsoever thing ye ask in faith, which is good, believing ye shall recieve, it shall be given you. i kept this scripture in my heart all day long, constantly praying, telling Heavenly Father that i didnt hope we were leaving this week, but that i really believed we could leave. i believed He would give us a way that we could begin our ministry this week.

it was quite the spiritual experience. and since that day every prayer i have included the same plea. anyway, last night elder Lovelace and I arrived to our casa late. our district leader let us know that we had recieved a phone call 5 minutes earlier.  we would be leaving to paraguay not only this week, they said, but tomorrow morning!

so we spent ALL night packing our things, and i leave for the airport in about an hour!

this can be nothing short of a miracle. the front desk had told us that govt issues take weeks to solve, maybe even months, and that we had to be patient. im still not sure why heavenly father decided to extend my stay here, but i feel like this was it. my testimony of Fasting and the knowledge of the power and the magnitude that faith has is way more important that one more week in the field.  my testimony has been made so much stronger through this experience. through my many latino classes and other things i´ve been through this week, i have been taught how to love people i dont even know, people that are very different from myself. i have learned how to see the children of God the way that god sees them - by their potential. i have learned how important faith is. and my desire to teach and bring souls unto remembrance of their father in heaven has increased to the point of no return.  i cant wait to be in paraguay, understanding nothing anyone tells me, waking up to coconut spiders in my bedroom, and loving the people that heavenly father has sent me to teach.

and so, i probably wont have time to write later this week, i dont know when it will be, but thanksgivings is this thursday. not until i was given a missionary mind set did i realize how important thanksgiving is.  without gratitude an individual is nothing. it is the basic ingredient that makes an ordinary person extraordinary in the sight of God.  we have been taught here that as our understanding of the atonement increases, our desire to share will equally increase.  through our gratitiude for the savior´s sacrifice and our willingness to use it as often as needed, we can be made more selfless, more loving, and more strong in our resolves.

im thankful for you all and the examples you have been for me. you have all had a part in shaping and molding me into the person i am today. have a good thanksgiving, eat some mashed potatoes for me, and God Bless.

Con Amor

November 18, 2016

Hi family,
as much a bummer as it was to be told i had to stay in the CCM for one more additional week, i can think of many weeks that have been worse.  my new district, 3A, is loco. It is only Latinos, and they are some of the craziest people I´ve ever met. here is what i have learned about Latinos this week, 1. they are late to everything. ha sometimes they dont even show up to personal study, 2. they all reallly really like Ed Sheeran for some reason, and 3. they´re obsessed with learnig english slang

so i was moved into a new casa on monday. its really big, has 5 rooms and usually 4 elders to each room. Elder Lovelace and I got a room to ourselves, however, which is really nice. our casa is always loud, full of latinos singing Ed Sheeran and songs from Frozen in spanish. everynight they tell us there´s going to be a ¨party in house 21¨ (thats our house number) and then they all gather in one room and play a game with a fly swatter. they swat each other on the back until one person gives up. i played my first night. it wasnt any fun haha.

learning in a spanish classroom isnt all bad. i was surprised with how much i can actually understand. elder Lovelace and I taught a few lessons and our teachers seemed impressed with all that we knew in only 7 weeks. the Latinos are always asking Elder Lovelace and I to sing to them, usually Ed Sheeran or the Chainsmokers haha

still no new news about out flight out of here. everyone leaving this week got their plans on tuesday. hope that doesnt mean im stuck here for another week. i dont even know who is in charge of making our flight plans, or who was the one that terminated our plans last week.
we went to the temple in mexico city today. i went through the session in complete spanish. to be honest it was terrifying haha

no pictures this week, sorry. the computers here have a bunch of walls up and something happened with my camera and now i cant attach pictures.

hey dad,

still dont have flight plans. haha i dont know what they´re going to do with us honestly haha we make jokes they´ll just make the CCM our mission for the whole 2 years. i really hope against that.  the receptionist told us to come back at 4 today so thats where i´ll be later.

i´ve been with a latino district who are in their last week here as well, however, they only spend 3 weeks here because they already know Spanish. they´re a good time, i´ll have to send you a picture of my back next week, haha it was pretty rad.

all the lessons they teach i´ve already been through. it has helped alot though, with them all being completely in spanish and not spanglish.  they´re really nice and patient, and really appreciate when we try to speak. there´s one hermana here from spain that was really pleased with my speaking though. i dont wanna jinx myself but im really feeling the language now. there are many words that i think of the spanish one before the english equivilent. im turning into a mexican!

im glad everythings well back home. man i miss Crew. dont worry about him too much, when i was a kid you never knew where i actually was and i´d like to say i turned out alright. haha

i cant wait to leave. honestly this week has kind of been like torture. i want to start teaching, to start usuing what i've learned for good, for the slavation of souls. i think this is god´s way of humbling me. when i get out i´ll recieve my witness im sure, for this is definitely a trial of great faith. but dont worry about me. i´ll be fine.

i love you dad. stay strong. im praying for you and the family.

November 12, 2016

so I´ve been straight up played. thought i was leaving, but i guess Paraguay isnt ready for us until next week. they cancelled our flights and are moving us to new rooms, putting me and Elder Lovelace in a new latino district, and we´ll leave either monday or tuesday of next week.  my last P Day here in the ccm will hopefully be on thursday, if they decide not to hold us any longer. talk to you all then.

November 10, 2016

2 days til they ship me out into the real world!!

so a little i´ve learned about paraguay since i´ve got here
  - the 2nd largest black market in the world
  - during the rainy season, the streets flood up to your knees
  - theres one side of food they eat with every meal that is rice with super nasty cheese and mayo
  - the bugs and spiders there grow to be bigger than a human fist

elder lovelace told me we get machetes in the field. apparently we cut peoples lawns with them for service. imma bout to fruit ninja a coconut spider so hard. too excited

this week we had a senario in a lesson where we took on problematic investigators and then took turns teaching and testifying, so we drew stickers from our teacher that gave our identity. i got the part of a homosexual. i really dont know how many of those i´ll teach in paraguay but it was an interesting experience to say the least

so elder lovelace and i made up a fake calling for ourselves that we call stress management. basically we tell all the newbies we´re from stress management so whenever we goof off no one says anything about it. we go into their classrooms at night and talk to them about how to be not stressed. my zone leader thought it was a good idea and actually made the legit calling and gave it to us. so now we´re stress management slash zone motivational speakers. haha i love it here

earlier this week i learned to solve a rubiks cube and now im a total whiz. 3 minutes flat. i think im decent but the district leader can do it in like 45 seconds. he´s insanely smart. he´s gonna be on the mathlete team at byu when he gets home. the kids a genius.

this week i was called as the travel leader for all the buddies going to paraguay. its basically just playing babysitter, but im still super stoked! so i leave for paraguay monday morning at 5:30, we have a 3 hour flight to panama, a 2 hour delay and then a 6 hour flight straight to asuncion. all in all about 10 hours of flying. i´ll get into paraguay at about 11:30 that night.

dad! thanks for the pictures haha they're awesome!! i miss that tie on my mannequin, man... haha i thought i couldn't bring any of those with me and all the elders here have fancy floral ones! made me pretty sad i didnt bring any with me. but today we all traded ties in the district and i got some pretty sweet ones, not gonna lie.

the wedding  sounded awesome. i love that mannequin. and cannon and annalee look so happy. give em a hug from me. thanks.

i dont have much more to say. im really sad to leave here. my teachers are amazing. hermano santiago is going to BYU idaho next year. first time for him to be in the states. he´s 24 and the coolest guy i´ve ever met. he has the hugest heart and i definitely am going to visit him when i get home. he´s the best.

glad to see the pic of those missionary plaques from the ward. i actually saw amberlee cox here on my second week. she left awhile ago though. it was nice to see someone from mesa. then again i get to see Drew and talon every once in a while, which is really nice. they´re both doing really good, and we´re all leaving for the field on Monday.

thanks for everything dad. i´ve written in my journal every night i´ve been here, but i dont know if that will change in the field. i got a letter from elias today. kids doing awesome. so proud of him. next time you see hunter chapman tell him i said whats up. im too excited for that kid. he will truly perform miracles for his father in heaven. do you know the bolivia santa cruz mission borders the asuncion north mission?? pretty cool right?  we'll be neighbors!

thanks for all the letters, love you all. next time i email it´ll be from about 5,000 miles away.

November 4, 2016

hey everyone!

this week has been pretty laid back. we´re coming to end of the fake investigator lessons. got them both to commit to baptism. one was pretty difficult tho. he was an aetheist physics major thta liked to hit the strip clubs. it was pretty amusing speaking to him and all of his answers being ¨muchas chicas¨ hahaha what a guy

so i guess in mexico they do day lights savings time. how wack is that?? i literally see no point to it, but now im only one hour ahead of AZ instead of 2. and i got an extra hour of sleep so that was kind of nice.

so my district leaders name is Elder Schmidt. hes from West Jordan Utah, and he´s quite the character. i love him to pieces. i´ll send  a picture of him too.  he used play clash of clans religiously. his tag was ¨holy schmidt¨ hahahah anyway for about 5 minutes he was actually the best in the world. pretty crazy. he told me back home he would have smash and clash nights, hahah they would play smash bros and in between rounds would go and raid ha.

halloween in the CCM was actually pretty bomb. they dont celebrate it in mexico but after our lessons we trick or treated at the older couples houses and got some candy bars and some of my buddies dressed up in costumes.  afterward we all piled into one little room and told funny stories from halloween in high school and then some creepy stories. it was a blast.

we watched elder nelson give a devotional from provo on sunday night. that man knows his stuff. he told us that he has 100 great  grandchildren!! i just find that insane! he talked to us about the effect our mission will have on the rest of our lives. pretty exciting stuff

when i first got to the ccm two elders came in one day and told us they were from stress management and just messed around with us. found out this week they just made the job up and just wanted to goof around with us. so tomorrow we´re going to take up their mantle and mess with the greenies. should be fun.

Dear Family,
this week has been a great week! todays been really lax and easy. we played volleyball for a while and I took a nap. its so weird not being occupied all the time. to be honest i dont know if i like p days haha

so my 2 teachers names are hermano santiago and hermano tapia. they´re both like 5´3´´ and the happiest guys i've ever met.  hermano tapia tells us he likes to listen to desiigner when hes not teaching. every once in awhile he'll say ¨oso negra y blanco, prrrrah prrrrah¨ which is the panda song in spanish hahaha and he´s always dabbing. he´s hilarious.  hermano santiago is the best. everytime we see him he gives us the biggest hug and picks us up. there is so much love in this guys heart.  next school year he´s going to the states to attend BYU idaho. he´s so excited about it. he says he wants to buy a food truck and sell tacos from it. apparently he´s an amazing cook.   and a really good teacher too.

we had a devotional on sunday by the mtc 2nd counselor in the presidency, presidante Lyons. it was a devotional on the family proclaimation, and he told us elders that if we werent married within a year of being home after the mish then we have a couple of screws loose in the head. dont know how i feel about that haha

so this week my companion elder lovelace told me that before he went on a mission, he tried out for the voice and was the last one cut before the actual primeire. out of like 2 million people, he was number 81. kids got an amazing voice. its great to be able to talk to someone who loves music as much as i do.  we always sing Lion sleeps tonight becasue you know, what else can you sing at a missionary training center?

an elder in my district got his wisdom teeth out this mormning. apparently the doctors in the states told him he didnt need them out, but then he got here and was having tooth aches.  poor kid. elder olsen form north carolina. the operation took about 5 hours haha

Dad! this week has been for sure a great one!! the language is improving, im getting better with teaching and showing love, i just feel so empowered in a place like this. its just so comforting.
i want to share with you a video we watched in our last devotional. its called the current bush, taken form a talk by elder kristofferson. you´ve probably seen it alreday, but i challenge you to watch it again, preferably as a family. i know youre working during the night and the schedules are really hard to make out, but you need to make sure that our family is praying every night and having FHE weekly. we dont understand all the blessings we recieve when we follow the commandments of the lord. our family will be blessed beyond belief

i love that story from the temple. its very intruiging. ive been twice now to the mexico city temple, its glorious. truly a house of the lord.

you know, me and my companion were going through a couple of songs we both kneew, and ended up singing Aly & AJ and got the whole district in on it. such a fun moment, and it just made me think of you. haha remember when we would listen to josh groban when we were kids and just yell the lyrics ¨you, are. LOOOVVVVEDDDD¨  i love that memory.

thanks for writing. im sure you´ll get right back into the habit. love you dad. thanks for all the prayers. i know that they really do help.

its so great to hear from you. i guess i got your sentimentality. my birthday is going to be my last p day in the ccm. i´d love if you guys just sent me a photo album. thats all i want.

last sunday we had sister bonnie oscarson visit and give a devotional. it was sooo powerful. and afterwards one of my buddies in the district fan girled over her and got her autograph. Ha! the kids in my district are such goons, everyday is just a new adventure.  the language is coming along pretty good, actually. we teach fake investigators here in spanish, and yesterday i didnt need to bring any notes with me! its still really broken spanish but at least i can convey my feelings haha and we watched a devo from provo with elder bednar the week before last. he talked about how to get the most out of conference. it was amazing, im definitely gonna follow through with his advise this april.

you really dont have to build a shrine for me in my room haha if crew wants it he´s more than welcome to it. how is the kid? i got his email. it was pretty touching. i may or may have not teared up reading it.

everyday is great. i have the best teachers. the best district, and awesome companion. honestly i feeel like the field is gonna be a little of a let down compared to this. and the food is hosnestly amazing. its sooo good. normally haha

i love you dad. thanks for all the advice. you dont have to wory about me. im a missionary now.

Me and Elder Lovelace at Mexico City Temple

October 14, 2016

hi mom. it´s finally p day. i don´t really know what to tell you. i´ll write this personal email to you, and then a generic one that you could send to brittnee so she could forward it to all my buddy´s? these mexican keyboards are a pain to write on haha. the first few days felt like an eternity. they keep you so busy, i have classes every minute of every day.  it was hard to focus on the firs few days too. i missed everyone so much. especially Crew. tell him i miss him. tell him what´s up from me. ask him how school´s going for me, and tell him i love him. i was really bummed for a couple days until i realized that because God gave me such an awesome family that i love, i owe him. that´s why im here. to pay him back for all the good he´s done for me.  i´ve already learned so much. we finished teaching our first ´´investigator´´ yesterday. taught him everything in spanish.  very broken spanish haha. my companions name is Elder Lovelace. he´s from Orem, Utah, and we´re already super tight. he´s the coolest. anyway, i have some requests for your emails next week. can you send me the pictures in a folder on the desktop called ´´sam´s for chase´´ or something like that?  i really regret not bringing any pictures... and can you have dad or brittnee print out the workout for P90-X´s ab ripper? if i dont do something soon im gonna gain alot of weight...
anyway, i´ll send another email with all the info so you can get it to my friends to. just wanted to write you a personal one first. i miss you and dad so much. im so greatful for the example you set for me throughout my life. you really were the best parents a kid could ask for. love you

hi dad. glad to hear you´re body´s returning to its former glory haha.
the CCM has been great to me. this morning we went to the Mexico City Temple to do endowments. it was gorgeous. the temple is enourmous, it´s like a castle.  i actually love it here. my disctrict is the best. District 10C. biggest bunch of goons i´ve ever met haha apart from the kiddos back home of course. whenever we´re not learning or teaching we´re sharing funny stories from high school. these kids are a real hoot, let me tell you.  my companions name is elder Lovelace, he´s from orem, utah. he´s white, 5´9´´, a basketball player, adn we´re already super tight. if i had known him in high school we would have definitely gotten in some trouble together. anyway, i´ll send a generic email to mom to send to everyone, i just wanted to write especially to you first. expect a call from a brother Love from salt Lake about my visa. he emailed me about 3 days ago.
i havent had the chance to hear any of the talk from gc. i dont think i can really get my hands on any around here... it´d be great if you could send me one. thanks.
i love you dad. seriously, these past couple days have really taught me how great my family was. read email to mom too.
